VIA BRASIL BR-163 BEGINS TOLL COLLECTION IN TWO TOLL PLAZAS

ANTT authorization establishes a basic tariff of R$ 9.80 as of February 13

After concluding the recovery, maintenance, conservation, and provision of services provided for in the scope of the Initial Works phase, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT, Portuguese acronym) authorized Via Brasil BR-163, the operation of Conasa Infraestrutura responsible for managing the toll roads BR-163 and BR-230 between Sinop (MT) and Miritituba (PA), to start, at 00:00 on February 13, 2023, the toll collection in the plazas located in Cláudia (MT) and Guarantã do Norte (MT). The third plaza on the stretch granted to Via Brasil BR-163, located in Trairão (PA), is undergoing the ANTT audit process.

The offer of services to users of the BR-163/230, between Sinop (MT) and access to the ports in Miritituba (PA), began on November 20, 2022. In the balance of the first 30 days, an average of 200 occurrences per day were reported. Out of these, about 30% were collections of objects on the road. Mechanical vehicle breakdowns accounted for approximately 13% of the total assistance.

With the start of operations, one of the most important services for users is the 24-hour monitoring of the toll road by traffic inspection vehicles. On Via Brasil BR-163, there are 23 vehicles circulating uninterruptedly over a thousand kilometers under concession. With a month of operation, there were around 700 hours of inspection, 291 approaches to users on the toll road for various assistance, and more than 280,000 kilometers traveled.

Light tow trucks assisted 155 vehicles during this period, with the main service being related to various breakdowns. Removal by the concessionaire takes the vehicle to the nearest safe point, so that the user can cautiously seek technical assistance. The heavyweight winch trucks, aimed at helping larger vehicles, operated in towing 136 vehicles and played an important role in dismantling 20 cargo vehicles.

ABOUT VIA BRASIL BR-163

Via Brasil BR-163 is the concessionaire responsible for managing the 1,009 kilometers that connect Mato Grosso to ports in Pará, serving 12 municipalities between Sinop, in Mato Grosso, and the port of Miritituba, in Pará. This is the first concession of a federal toll road in the North of the country.

The stretch is one of the main corridors for the flow of grain production from the Midwest and North, linking agribusiness production to the port terminals of Arco Norte (Rio Tapajós).

The contract will last for 10 years and is expected to invest more than R$ 2 billion in the operation, maintenance, monitoring, conservation, implementation of improvements, and maintenance of services.
