SALTO HAS SANITATION INDICATORS ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE

Instituto Trata Brasil’s ranking shares data during Water Week

In the Week that celebrates World Water Day, the Trata Brasil Institute publishes its 15th edition of the Sanitation Ranking focused on the country’s 100 largest municipalities. The report analyzes the indicators of the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), 2021, published by the Ministry of Cities.

Since 2009, the Trata Brasil Institute has monitored the indicators of the largest Brazilian municipalities to shed light on a historical problem experienced in the country. The lack of access to drinking water impacts almost 35 million people. About 100 million Brazilians do not have access to sewage treatment, reflecting the population’s health problems.

The ranking data show that the country still needs help with sewage treatment, of which only 51.2% of the volume generated is treated. Salto has relied on Conasa’s private investments since 2007, and today 98% of its sewage is collected and treated. The indicator places the municipality above the average of the 20 most populated cities in the country best positioned in the ranking, which is 80.6%.
