A traditional demonstration in Pará returns after two years without being held due to the pandemic

The biggest festival in the State of Pará, with more than 200 years of history, the Círio de Nazaré is a manifestation of devotion to Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by Iphan and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. From October 7th to 9th, Belém is expected to receive more than 2 million people for the first one after the Covid-19 pandemic, which made it impossible to hold the party in the last two years.

Luz de Belém, Conasa's public lighting concessionaire in Belém (PA), is concentrating efforts on lighting the main pilgrimage sites that include avenues and cathedrals, in addition to Santa de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, a 34-meter-high monument on Viscount de Souza Franco Avenue - Dock.

The Círio de Nazaré is one of the largest religious manifestations in the world and brings together several celebrations throughout the state. Belém is the place of concentration of most visitors and congregation, and where the party has a greater proportion.

Altogether, there are more than 10 main pilgrimage activities that include pilgrimages on foot, by car, by motorcycle, and even by boat. Among the most important events, there are the Transfer Mass, the Círio Mass, the Feast Procession, and the Closing Mass.

The climax of the Círio happens on the second Sunday of October, which this year will be on the 9th, when the main procession that takes the pilgrim image of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré from the Metropolitan Cathedral to the Basilica of Nazaré.
