AN EVENT AT ‘ETA MORRETES’ MARKS THE WORLD WATER DAY IN ITAPEMA

Authorities got together for the celebration. The Water Treatment Plant has received students for guided tours throughout the week.

The Morretes Water Treatment Plant was the stage for the official celebrations of World Water Day in Itapema. Denis Grassi, operations superintendent of Conasa Águas de Itapema, received the acting president of FAACI (Environmental Foundation Coastal Area of Itapema) Wesley Paludo and the educational coordinator of the Municipal Department of Education, Renata Lewandoviski Montagnoli.

Throughout this week, 9th-grade students from two public schools - Francisco Vitor Alves (Morretes) and Oswaldo de Oliveira (Várzea) – visit the Morretes WTP facilities to learn about the water treatment process for human consumption. At the beginning of the visit, they watch a video about “The Universe Behind the Faucet,” showing the various stages that water goes through to be available whenever needed. The initiative is from Conasa, FAACI, and the Municipal Secretariat of Education.

Wesley Paludo, who represented FAACI at the event, highlighted the importance of the awareness activities. “Showing the students information about how water is necessary for human life is fundamental so that they can transmit this knowledge to their friends and family, with the intention that everyone does their part to maintain life and human and economic development. This action is also an excellent opportunity for students to learn the possibilities of professional placement in the sanitation sector”, he said.

Denis Grassi, superintendent of Conasa Águas de Itapema, reinforced the city’s advances in these more than 18 years with private investments in sanitation. The production capacity of treated water in Itapema is almost 50 million liters a day, and the reservoir capacity is more than 9 million liters. In the five water treatment stations, 700 liters per second are processed. In the raw water reserve, there are 500 million liters.

“The city is now supplied with quality water throughout the year and can meet the high demand during the summer seasons. Water is fundamental for life, so actions like this to raise awareness among young people in training are relevant to spreading the importance of treated water. We have the opportunity here to show one of the stages of the whole treatment process and how the water gets to the tap, showing that water is a finite good and needs to be taken care of. In addition to this is the opportunity to get them excited about new professions and interested in being future professionals in the sanitation sector”, she said.

Renata Montagnoli, representing the Municipal Secretariat of Education, stressed the importance of this initiative that not only collaborates with the direct training of students concerning the water cycle but also expands to their families, favoring the construction of a more conscious society. “This initiative of practical interaction with the students shows how the water treatment that reaches 100% of the houses in our municipality works, representing the population’s health and well-being. We are thrilled with this action that provided all this knowledge to our students, broadening everyone’s vision about the presence of water in everything we consume,” he evaluated.
