ÁGUAS DO SERTÃO CONSORTIUM STARTS OPERATING SANITATION SERVICES IN ALAGOAS

The goal is to universalize access to basic sanitation in the municipalities served by the Consortium until 2033

Águas do Sertão Consortium (formed by Conasa Infraestrutura and Allonda Ambiental Saneamento) officially begins this Thursday, September 1, 2022, the operation for the supply of water treated by Casal, as well as sanitary sewage. Commercial service will be provided to the 34 municipalities that make up the Leiteira and Serrana Basin, known as Block B, through the concession of sanitation services, carried out at the end of 2021 in the B3 auction.

With a 35-year contract, the goal of operator Águas do Sertão is to universalize access to basic sanitation in the municipalities served by the Consortium until 2033, connecting 100% of households to the water network and 90% to the sewage collection network. However, according to Leo Cesar Melo, CEO of Grupo Allonda, the population of the locations served will already begin to perceive the positive results of the operation right from the start.

“We are going to offer people an excellent service structure, with standardized and air-conditioned stores, self-service points, several contact channels (by 0800, website, WhatsApp and chatbot), possibility of payment by Pix or card (both credit and debit), availability of automatic debit for those who are customers of Banco do Brasil or Caixa Econômica Federal, among many other advances”, states the CEO of Grupo Allonda.

Medium- and long-term benefits

A study by ABCON (Associação e Sindicato Nacional das Concessionárias Privadas de Serviços Públicos de Água e Esgoto) in partnership with CNI (Confederação Nacional da Indústria) indicates that in 12 years the concession of sanitation services should generate a gain of R$ 3, 04 billion in the State's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 14,500 jobs by 2033, in addition to an increase of R$ 404 million in municipal revenues and R$ 658.3 million in state revenues.

“In the medium and long term, the expansion of the sanitation service will bring significant results to Alagoas, such as improvement in indicators and reduction of public spending in the area of health, increase in the Human Development Index (HDI), preservation of the environment, generation of employment and income, in addition to the increase in investments and tax collection”, states Mario Marcondes Neto, CEO of Conasa Infraestrutura.
